Will Bernhardt II-Head Coach
Will assumed the Head Coach responsibilities in the fall of 2005. He has been involved with the sport of swimming for over 20 years, starting as a swimmer for the Michiana Marlins, in South Bend, at the age of 7. He competed with the club through his graduation from high school and also represented them in the 2000 Olympic Trials.
During high school, he was a four year letter winner at Riley High Schoo,l under legendary coach Dave Dunlap. His senior year he was elected a Team Captain. During his high school career, Will received several All-American honors and placed as high as State Runner-Up in the 200 IM. On the club level, Will was a 7-time Junior National Champion, a National Qualifier from 1997-2001, and a US Open finalist in 2000 in the 100 and 200 Back. During the summer of 2000, Will competed at the Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, finishing 32nd and 33rd in the 200 and 100 Back, respectively. During the spring of 2001, Will competed at the Spring Nationals in the 100 and 200 Back and earned times that ranked him in the top 50 of the World in the 200 (44th) and 100 (45th) Back. Will received a scholarship to swim at the University of Kansas from 1997-1999. After a brief 2 years at Kansas, he elected to transfer back home to Indiana University. He received a scholarship to IU and finished his competitive swim career and schooling in Bloomington. In the spring of 2002, Will received his degree from Indiana in Exercise Science.
Will started his coaching career while finishing his schooling at IU. He served as the volunteer coach at Indiana University and worked primarily with the Backstroke and middle distance groups. After graduating, Will received a job at one of the most successful clubs in America, Irvine Novaquatics, based in Irvine, CA. While at Nova, Will coached the Bronze level athletes (10-12yo) while assisting the Senior Coach at the Los Cabaleros location. From California, Will took over the reins as Head Coach for the Northwestern Aquatic Swim Association (NASA) and Wildcat Aquatics at Northwestern University. While at NASA/Wild, he coached several Illinois HS State Champions and Runners-Up, as well as having an athlete place 2nd in the 200 Free at the Spring Jr. National Championships in 2004. Will also assumed responsibilities as the volunteer coach at Northwestern University, working on both the Men’s and Women’s side of the pool. He worked directly with several Big Ten Conference Champions, NCAA Champions and All- Americans including Matt Grevers, Mike Alexandrov, Kyle Bubolz, and Andrea Hupman. While at NU, Will also served as Interim Aquatics Director for the Norris Aquatic Center.
After his time at NU, Will moved back home to become the Head Coach for Irish Aquatics. Since September, Will has made several changes to the program with successful results. At the conclusion of the short course season, IA earned its highest finish ever at the short course Age Group State meet, finishing in 6th Place. The TEAM also won the Spirit Award, an award given to the TEAM which displays the most enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and spirit during the course of the championship season.
Will lives with his dog Elwood. He was born on April 24th, 1979. Will is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and predicts a World Series win this year! He also enjoys the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts. His parents Bill and Diane are seen regularly at meets helping the TEAM in any way possible. He has a sister Beth, brother-in-law Lloyd, and two nephews Benjamin and Nicholas and neice Julia.
Louis Cavadini-Bremen Head Coach
Louis learned to swim from his father in their
backyard pool at an early age. He was a dominate force in the doggypaddle until
he branched out and joined the Michiana Marlins. Soon he became an Indiana
legend and won the overall meet at the 8&-under championships in 1994.
After this he joined the newly formed club of Racer X. Louis went to Riley High
School where he became a 9-time All-American, enjoyed 2 undefeated seasons
(including 2 team state-runners up), many school and pool records, and recieved
a scholarship to swim for the University of Notre Dame while swimming for the
Irish Aquatics swim club. Here he excelled in butterfly, sprint freestyle and
was an avid relay swimmer. He left Notre Dame a four year monogram winner, won
the Big East team title twice and once in the 800 free relay, held 5 university
records, and was voted captain his senior year. He is thankful for all his past
team mates and coaches, and looks to return everything he learned during his 15
years of swimming competively to his own swimmers and team. His greatest fear
is diving in for an event and losing his suit.
Mary Cavadini
Mary Cavadini has been coaching with Irish Aquatics for 3 years. She coaches for the Bronze group. Mary competitively swam for more than ten years with the Michiana Marlins, Racer-X, and Irish Aquatics. She swam all four years while in high school and was the team captain for two years. Mary is a senior at Saint Mary's College and she majors in Elementary Education and Special Education. She also works at the Early Childhood Development Center at Saint Mary's College year round.
Chris Frentz
Chris began his swimming career at an early age
swimming with the East Lansing Golden Serpents and Haslett Blue
Marlins. He was an All State Swimmer for
