Coach Matt started with IA in June
2012 coming from the Cleveland, Ohio area where he served as a head
site coach for University Swim Club, assistant coach for the
Twinsburg High School swim team and assistant coach for
John Carroll University. He graduated from John Carroll
University in 2005 with a BS in Physics. While at JCU, Coach Matt
was a 4 year varsity collegiate swimmer earning numerous
All-Conference honors and qualifying for the 2004 NCAA DIII
Championships. Coach Matt went on to earn an MS in Medical
Physics from Cleveland State Univeristy in 2008, then a secondary
teaching certificate from CSU in 2009. Coach Matt taught Physics at
Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH from 2009-2012 when
he moved to South Bend.
Patrick Rice
Assistant Coach - Senior/Gold Groups
Email
Patrick joined the coaching staff at Irish Aquatics in 2008 and
was named Head Age Group Coach in 2010. He since has moved onto
working primarily with our Gold and Senior swimmers.
Patrick is a senior at Notre Dame, majoring in theology and
pre-medicine. Patrick started his swim career at age 9,
continuing to swim with Irish Aquatics and Marian High School,
where he concentrated on swimming the butterfly and back stroke.
He spent the summer of 2011 at Camp Sweeney in Dallas, TX,
where he worked with children with juvenile diabetes. Additionally,
he is a level 1 certified ASCA coach.
Michael Rice
Assistant Coach - Gold/Silver Groups

In his fourth season as coach with Irish Aquatics, Michael
is a junior pre-professional major at Notre Dame.
He has been swimming since he was eight and joined Irish Aquatics
when he was ten. Michael continued to swim with Irish
throughout high school, where he also competed with the Marian
boys’ swim team. He prefers to swim freestyle and
butterfly.
In addition to his coaching time with Irish Aquatics, Michael
has been associated with Morris Park Country Club, where he has
given swim lessons for four years and coached their swim team for
the past three years.
